The Renal Excretion of Folic Acid.

چکیده
The urinary excretion of tritiated folic acid after a single intravenous injection in man has been measured by Johns, Sperti, and Burgen (1). Plasma concentrations of the labeled compound fell sharply initially, and then more slowly. Urinary clearance in terms of the later, slowly declining plasma levels was shown, at plasma concentrations above 10 jug per L, to be independent of plasma level and to average 51 ml per minute. The finding of an upper fixed limit lower than the glomerular filtration rate (130 to 140 ml per minute) was correlated with binding of folic acid to plasma proteins. Ultrafiltration and equilibrium dialysis demonstrated a practically uniform binding over the concentration range of 5 to 3,000 ug per L, with an average of 64%o. The renal excretion of folic acid at these high plasma levels could be accounted for simply by glomerular filtration and urinary excretion of unbound folic acid. At plasma levels lower than 10 ug per L, the urinary clearance appeared to decline, suggesting some renal tubular reabsorption of folic acid, but no threshold plasma concentration was defined, suggesting a relatively ineffective renal mechanism for the conservation of folic acid. At these lower plasma concentrations, the accuracy of the data was not great because of the low levels of radioactivity involved. Tritium-labeled folic acid of much higher specific activity has now become available. This material has been used in the present study to investigate more completely the renal excretion of folic acid by the single renal intra-arterial injection technique (2). /

Effects of Folic Acid Supplementation on Proteinuria in Type 2 Diabetic Patients with Overt Proteinuria
Objective: An association between high homocysteine levels and proteinuria in diabetic nephropathy has been shown. On the other hand, supplementation with folic acid lowers homocysteine concentration. We have studied the effects of folic acid supplementation on proteinuria in type 2 diabetic patients with overt proteinuria. Materials and Methods: Forty five (29 men and 16 women) type 2 diabe...
متن کاملNetrin-1 and kidney injury. II. Netrin-1 is an early biomarker of acute kidney injury.
Acute kidney injury is an important complication in hospitalized patients often diagnosed late and associated with high mortality and morbidity. Although biomarkers for nephrotoxicity are available, they often lack sensitivity and specificity for detecting tubular injury. Netrin-1 is a laminin-like molecule highly expressed in many organs including kidney. To determine the value of netrin-1 as ...
متن کاملمقایسه تجویز کم تر از 5 میلی گرم روزانه با 15 میلی گرم یک روز در میان اسیدفولیک در کاهش هیپرهموسیستئینمی بیماران همودیالیزی
Background and purpose: Hyperhomocysteinemia is common among patients with renal failure and the risk of cardiovascular diseases increases with hyperhomocysteinemia. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of two doses of folic acid (2 and 7.5 mg/day ) in decreasing plasma concentration of homocysteine in ËSRD patients receiving regular hemodialysis therapy. Materials and methods...
متن کاملAssociation between Amylase Excretion Fraction and Acute Renal Transplant Rejection in Pediatrics
Background and Objectives: Serum amylase increases and its excretion fraction decreases in patients with renal failure. Excretion fraction can be used as a diagnostic way in individuals with acute renal transplant rejection. In this study, the association between amylase excretion fraction and acute renal transplant rejection, was investigated in pediatrics. Methods: in this case - control s...
متن کاملTherapeutic Response to Folinic Acid in Me-thanol Poisoning Epidemic in Shiraz
Background: Methanol poisoning may result to death and permanent complications, sporadic cases of methanol poisoning are fairly rare and the largest experience are generally gained from managing methanol intoxication epidemics. The main metabolite of methanol is acid formic that is the prime metabolite responsible for toxic effects of methanol and since folate dependent systems are responsible ...
